Tiffany Opela – S.U.M.S. Teacher

I am so honored and excited to be Sycamore’s SUMS (Student’s Understanding Math and Science) teacher. I love being able to watch children explore how fun science and math can be. This will be my first year officially teaching full time after substitute teaching in Vail for several years.

I am a native Tucsonan and love it here. I graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. My husband, Franchot, and I were married in 2000 and we have two children, Avery and Chase. We moved to Vail in 2004 specifically for the Vail School District. Both of my children attended Sycamore and are now at Corona Foothills Middle School and Cienega High School. I spent many years in management and then was fortunate enough to leave my position to stay home with my kids. For the next 12 years I raised my children, was a Girl Scout leader, a softball coach, a volleyball coach, a football mom, a Boy Scout mom, a classroom volunteer, and I ran my own Pampered Chef business. When my youngest was in 5th grade, I decided to become a substitute teacher and fell in love with teaching. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching my kids in their various sports, hiking, fishing, and cooking.

My goal as a teacher is to always provide a positive and fun learning environment where children feel cared for, safe, and aren’t afraid to take risks. I have a love of learning and hope to foster this attitude in all my students. I am so very thankful to have the opportunity to teach your child and be part of the Sycamore family. I look forward to a great year introducing my students to the worlds of math and science.
