The creation of art helps young children develop important social, visual, linguistic, and fine motor skills…and it’s fun! In art specials, our themed lesson units are highly cross-curricular, every project encouraging self expression, while challenging students to think critically, expand their academic vocabularies, problem solve, and experiment with new art techniques, tools and materials. It is my hope that students also gain understanding of how art has played an important role in cultures from around the world, and how world history and art go hand in hand. Students will even discover how mathematics, science and technology can all play a role in the creation and understanding of art!
I am thrilled to begin my 8th year of encouraging creative minds here at Sycamore. I graduated from the U of A with a B.A. degree in Studio Art (2004) and in 2010, received a Masters in Education from U of A South (2010). I had a wonderful teaching internship experience right here in Vail in 2010, but ended up spending my first year teaching in the Sunnyside School District. I was very excited for my daughter and I to be given the opportunity to become members of the outstanding Vail education family in 2011. I have a deep passion for all facets of the arts, and have been involved in many different art professions, including photography, graphic design, performance arts (theater and music), and custom mural painting, to name a few! In my own time, I enjoy painting, theater, reading, traveling, and spending time with my daughter Madelyn and sweet pup Luna. I feel honored to be Sycamore’s art specialist – I always look forward to the opportunity to get to know each of my students and encourage their creativity and appreciation of the arts!
