It was so nice to see everyone at our Welcome Back Night on Wednesday! The night was filled with energy, positivity, and excitement!! Teachers have put their final touches on classrooms and are ready to go for the first day of school on Monday!
Our school theme this year is Sycamore Shines! We Own the Light We Shine!. Each of us, in one way or another, gives light to other people. People turn to those that give them light, hope, and encouragement. We know that we will have to rely on each other for light and energy to have a successful year. Relationships and character have everything to do with the success of our school and community, Sycamore has earned many accolades including three A+ School of Excellence Awards. Our commitment is to continue to work hard, grow and provide a safe school in which our students can grow academically.
Starting the new school year also means getting back into routines. Please give yourself plenty of time in the morning as the first day of school drop-off and pick-up can be an adventure. It will be congested (especially in the afternoon), but once we get into the flow, dismissal will get smoother. Also, please drive safely as students will be walking to school and waiting at bus stops.
Just a reminder, wearing face coverings is optional for students, staff, and parent visitors to campus regardless of vaccination status. The choice to wear or not wear a face covering will be respected by all on our campus. Please see the Toolkit button on our website for information on COVID-19 Student Guidelines, bus stops and times, classroom supplies, and the BT Parent Portal which lays out our grade level curriculums.
Our PTA will have a balloon arch in front of school and we also have a Sycamore planter with sunflowers just inside our gates for you if you would like to take a “first day of school” picture. Students will then go directly to class and staff will be available to help them. To reduce congestion, parents are asked to wait in their car or outside the gate during dismissal. We appreciate your support as we safely dismiss our students at the end of the day.
As I enter my 30th year in the Vail School District and 19th year at Sycamore, I’m proud to be part of the Vail School District and Corona community. Sycamore and Corona are very special places. I’m excited to see our staff, students, and families shine this year!
